As many of you know, I have done dozens of iReports for CNN as a way of getting the word out on my aid trips. CNN recently laid off about 50 videographers and editors from their staff. CNN did a internal review for three years and determined that professional editors are not necessary to craft news stories any longer. It seems with all the new high quality cameras and with almost every new computer coming with some sort of video editing software CNN is looking to save money by having viewers report news stories. There is also the very interesting aspect of every person having smart phones/cameras that they are essentially can be turned into on the spot reporters, granted to the quality doesnt touch professional shooting/editing, it doesn't seem to matter as much anymore.
